Astrology Analysis of the Day: Sun

The sun is

The Sun is our basic identity, and represents self-realization. When you are asked, "Who are you?", and you've passed your basic statistics and occupation, your answers will be a description of your Sun. The Sun also represents our overall vitality. The Sun directs us, and can be considered "the boss" of our chart.

Sun in Taurus

(The Sun is in Taurus from approximately April 20 to May 20, depending on the year).

There is something very solid about Taurus natives, no matter what the rest of their charts say about them. Though they are dependable most of the time, this generally shows itself more in habit than in outright helpfulness.

Taurus natives are sensual folk--and this includes sex, but extends to pleasures in all areas: they delight in the sensual pleasures of food, a comfortable blanket, a richly colored aquarium to look at, the smell of flowers or spring rain, pleasing melodies coming from their stereos, and so forth. Some might even say they live through their senses more than most.

When Taurus natives work, they work hard. They do it with a steadiness that may rarely be considered quick--rather it's a dependable, plodding, and steady effort that has its payoffs. Security is immensely important to Taurus--some of them actively seek wealth, while others are content to be "comfortable". The Taurus definition of "comfortable" may not be exactly the same as the rest of the signs, but comfort is definitely a driving force.

Although hard-working, their fixed and comfort-loving nature sometimes makes them appear lazy. This is only because they separate work and leisure so well. When they work, they work hard, and when they play, they don't really "play" as such...they relax. A Solar Taurus who has kicked his or her feet up is rooted there--you'd be hard-pressed to get them to move. On a mental level, you'll likely have the same problem. Taureans stick with things and ideas, and therein lies one of the reasons why they are known for their stubbornness. Taurus is a fixed sign, and they have a fair measure of tradition and steadiness in their make-up that keeps them rooted.

The possessiveness associated with Taurus shows up in all areas of life in some way. Taurus likes to own things (and sometimes people). A nice home, a piece of land (this can be modest), a paid-off car, that aquarium mentioned earlier, a couple pets, maybe a solid business...In love and relationship, there is an earthy kind of possessiveness that may be considered jealousy by some, but there is actually quite a difference between being possessive and being jealous. Taurus natives are rarely jealous and petty. They do, however, think of the people they love as theirs--it adds to their sense of security.

Analysis

Sensual is right. I just like nice things. That first paragraph is pretty right on. The second as well. Those that know me, know that money is a (little too much of a) driving force in my life. Wanting wealth in order to give me the piece of mind that I desire. I want to be able to work at McDonalds and be able to make my bills if needed. And at this point, I probably could, but I'm working towards removing the probably.

The next paragraph is true as well. I definitely do work hard when I work and there is work to be done. I have been known to forget to eat and even hold off going to the bathroom until I fix a current problem. My playing is usually consisted of having a nice glass of wine and practicing the guitar. While some may think I "play" cards, I consider that a form of work that I really enjoy, but I do treat it as work. I don't really like to just sit there and bake in the sun though. And there is definitely a perception out there that I can be lazy, but when things need to get done, I can guarantee you I am far from lazy. As far as stubborn goes. Yeah. I was told that I believed everything that I read and then stuck with that idea. It's not that I believed everything, it is just that I agreed with what I read, formulated an opinion, and then stuck with that idea. I'm trying to be a lot more open to different ideas. I really am!

The last paragraph is true, but I am not really possessive over people and while I was jealous in my MUCH younger years, I have very much moved past that. Everything else though, yup. That's me. While people say that they write sign stuff as vague as possible for it to apply to most people, lots of these traits are pretty extreme and I don't see it applying to many of my friends at all. And so far, both my sun and rising sign have had some pretty extreme and accurate traits. Blunt? Materialistic? Hard working, but can be seen as lazy? Big talk, small follow through? It may be a coincidence, but my natal mapping gets worse. Next time we do the moon.

Astrology Analysis of the Day: Rising Sign

I did this little chart of my signs based on my birthday, time of birth and place of birth and it gave me back all my signs in relation to my different stars and planets. For example, here is my rising sign. The rising sign or ascendent is

The Ascendant defines, in part, the first impression we make on others in a personal rather than professional sense. It represents our physical appearance, our physical bodies and overall health, and the body ego. The Ascendant is often referred to as the mask we wear, although I don't consider it to be as superficial as this might suggest. What it does represent is our natural and personal defense mechanisms that we use to adapt to, and cope with, our environment.

Rising sign in Sagittarius

The world is filled with adventure, new things to experience, and, most of all, hope, with this Ascendant. There is an unmistakable faith and enthusiasm with Sagittarius rising people. Grand schemes, big promises, and a willingness to explore and experiment are themes, although follow-through is not a strong characteristic of Sagittarius.

These individuals are somewhat restless and often active people. They always seem to be looking for something that is just out of grasp -- and many do this their entire lives. They can be quite direct at times, yet they are likable enough to forgive for their faux-pas. Most have a lot to say and offer. Their insights and opinions are usually interesting and exciting, although sometimes lacking in details.

Sagittarius rising people have opinions about everything, and they just love telling others exactly what they are. Not all people with this position are outgoing folk, but they all have a way of moving about that at least exudes a certain level of confidence. Some might even call them naive or overly optimistic. Even the quiet ones don't shrink from life and from experience.

One of the most obvious and endearing traits of Sagittarius rising is their willingness to keep up a sense of humor. Even when they're feeling low, they manage to find humor in life and have fun with whatever they do have. The placement of Sagittarius' ruling planet, Jupiter, will give more clues to how they go about expressing themselves. Jupiter in Capricorn, for example, might give a more sarcastic approach, but underneath there lies an unmistakable hope and spirit for living.

Sagittarius Rising and Jupiter in Leo

Your Jupiter is in Leo, which suggests the great warmth, enthusiasm, heart, and generosity of spirit that infuses your expression. You love the color, drama, and celebration of life, and are gifted with a contagious confidence. Extravagance could be a temptation, for you cannot conceive of doing anything on a modest scale. Large plans and organizing major productions are your forte.

Analysis

For those that know me, this is a pretty accurate description of me. Let's start with the statement:
Grand schemes, big promises, and a willingness to explore and experiment are themes, although follow-through is not a strong characteristic of Sagittarius.

I've been talking about my ideas and dreams to become rich and famous such as moving from self employment to an actual business owner, making it big in cards, and plenty of failed attempts at starting tech businesses. I started playing piano and the guitar, but never followed through with the necessary effort to become good. I'm trying to change that, but for now, that's where I stand.

And then there's:
One of the most obvious and endearing traits of Sagittarius rising is their willingness to keep up a sense of humor. Even when they're feeling low, they manage to find humor in life and have fun with whatever they do have.

Yesterday I was on the phone with one of the women I'm seeing and she says to me that, other than my body of course, she loves my sense of humor and that she hasn't stopped laughing since she's been out with me. Now there was a time that when I felt low, it was hard to get out of the slump. I don't know how accurate it is to say that, prior to a couple years ago, I found humor when I was in the shits. But now, there's almost always a bright side to things. I know what it's like to feel like you've hit rock bottom, and when things feel blah I always say things could be worse. Except when it comes to relationships... Then my moon really comes into play. But that is a later post.

And finally:

You love the color, drama, and celebration of life, and are gifted with a contagious confidence. Extravagance could be a temptation, for you cannot conceive of doing anything on a modest scale.

Confident? Maybe a little... Extravagance a temptation? It's not quite a temptation anymore.
